Oklahoma City’s KOKH-TV, FOX 25, has interviewed several department members in conjunction with the work on the new VFW Veterans Service Center.  Date of broadcast is unknown at this point but when they do show it you should be able to view it here, Channel 25, Fox News.

The VFW Veterans Service Center nears Completion

In July the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Department of Oklahoma will move into its new location at  1103 N. Blackwelder (Corner of NW 10th).  This building which was formerly VFW Post 1857 has been under development for the past 10 months.  With new offices, modernized lighting systems and fresh paint it will become our new headquarters as our old location on Central Avenue (OKVA) closes.

Faced with new requirements for rent from the State of Oklahoma, the Council of Administration decided to open this facility and use the “rent” payment to support this center.

Initially operating as the state headquarters with service officer assistance for VA claim filing, we will be developing numerous other veteran services over the next 6 months to a year.  It is an exciting time for us.  We will live up to the motto that “No One Does More for Veterans.

We are grateful for the support we have received from posts and individuals and from others.  The VFW Foundation has led the way with a $15,000 grant towards roof and parking lot repairs.  Humana has continued their outstanding support to the department and their donation combined with a rebate from OG+E enable us to install all LED lighting which will save us approximately 75% of our light bill.  American Eagle lighting which installed our lights discounted their price and did quite a few extra things at no additional charge.  We are hoping that other foundations and commercial entities will continue their support.

As mentioned, the roof is next as recent storms took their toll.  After the roof, the parking lot needs a lot of attention.    We currently have about one-half of the funds we need so if you would like to support this highly and critically needed endeavor please click the donate button located at the top of the Department’s Home page.

As always, America’s War Veterans and their families appreciate your support.
